Spring Wardrobe Wish List

It’s been way too long since I last posted here, so sorry for the lack of attention!  Truth is, I have been really busy working towards my goal to sell my baking at farmers markets around town this summer.  It’s pretty exciting but so much paperwork which leaves me with little time to think about my style, or blog writing.

When I’ve been taking breaks or let my mind wander off the task at hand for a while I am found dreaming of things I’d like to add to my wardrobe.  Take today for example, I found 3 things I really want from the  Ricki’s website:

Asymmetric Collar Tunic

I still haven’t warn the green sweater tunic I bought a few weeks ago.  I’ve tried but have been self conscious about my stomach.  I love it and am determined to wear it at some point!

Oversized Belted Tunic

Flower Accent Stretch Bracelet

I seem to have an infatuation with tunics lately they are simple and look great, I think so anyway. Yes, that is an accessory that I also have been eyeing, yay me!  I’m a work in progress but I will learn how to accessorize one way or another!

Have you been eyeing anything to add to your wardrobe for spring?

Hair today….

It’s been a long time coming but not only have I finally found a hairdresser, I have also found a cut that works for the insanity that is my hair.

My hair is VERY thick, parts are wiry, other parts are fine, it’s wavy and sometimes very curly a lot of the time is frizzy and, to sum it up, challenging.  Or should I say was challenging.  The key is long round layers, it works when I want to leave my hair to do what it wants or straighten it.

Today I got my hair cut, it’s curly but most importantly, it’s got the long round layers that work so well:

It’s a little frizzy because of the rain and wind but it held up pretty well!  I usually get my hair straightened after a haircut but today I was convinced to “embrace the curl”… I’m still not convinced.

Have you found a haircut that works for you?  If so, how much of a difference has it made in your hair care routine?

OOTD: Casual Thrift finds

A couple of weeks ago I made it my mission to go to thrift stores to find all kinds of fun and unique accessories to pair with all the new outfits I’m conjuring up.  Unfortunately, I’ve been unsuccessful (so far) but am not giving up.  I did manage to find a couple of gems (And I also found a new addiction: Treasure hunting… it seems I get the urge to hunt at least once a week.) to add to my wardrobe:

A shrug, totally casual and comfy. Works with all my outfits I wear with jeans and adds some pizzazz - I think so anyway.

IMG_3116

A pair of jeans. Again, casual and comfy and bonus is that they actually fit (tag says a smaller size that I normally wear!) and the length is perfect to wear with flats, all my other jeans are longer and either have to be rolled up or warn with heals.

IMG_3117

And… they are DKNY!  First pair of designer jeans.  I’m not a label person, but I have to say that it’s nice to own these and know I got such an awesome deal on them.  Score!

Shrug: Value Village- $4.99
Jeans
: My Sisters Closet (Consignment)- $10.50
Top: Old Navy
Shoes: The Bay

* I’m going to have to find a better place to take pictures, sorry for the blurriness and business.

Since going to these stores, especially consignment stores it’s sparked my interest about trying to sell some of my things.  Have you ever sold your clothing or shoes in consignment stores?  If so, what has your experience been like?  Would you recommend it?

I’ll still give most of my clothing to charity, but there are some things that I think I can sell and put the proceeds toward updating my wardrobe.  Every little bit helps!

OOTD: Ricki’s Finds

I’m not working for these people, I swear, I just get a lot of luck at this store.  Today, I went in to exchange a pair of pants that I decided I really didn’t like- they were their ultimate legging, a no go for me.  I exchanged them for something much more flattering, I think.  And, I got another tunic which I am in love with and didn’t think I would be… here is my brand new outfit:

The first picture is with the belt that the tunic came with, the second is a belt that I got for Christmas, which one do you prefer?

I also got an accessory!

IMG_3106

It can be warn in your hair or on your top, I think I will be wearing it on tops, I tried it in my hair and it was silly:

OR, maybe I was being silly.  How would you wear it?  If you wore it in your hair, how would you do it?

Post to come: My thrift/consignment store finds!

OOTD: Date Night

Hubby and I decided to use one of our Christmas gift certificates on Friday and go to a very delicious sushi restaurant called Sen Zushi.  Super delicious, and very popular for their food and I love it for their authenticity, it’s how I imagine a restaurant in Japan being like – very cool.

Here are the shoes that you can’t really see:

IMG_3097

The shirt is something I wouldn’t have warn before- I was always afraid of stripes of any kind and the whole white thing was scary.  Now, I think I like it, and the stripes on a diagonal work?… what do you think?

Top and Jeans- Ricki’s (the jeans are their rinse wash ultimate jean- SO comfy!)
Shoes: Ross (a steal at $13.00 USD !)

I know could have used a necklace or something but I’m still challenged in that area… but all in all, what do you think of the outfit for date night?

OOTD

Hubby had the day off so after my Weight Watchers meeting we decided to do a little thrift store shopping for the house, I wanted to wear something other than my usual weigh-in sweats but still be causal (light) and stylish.  What do you think, did I pull this outfit off?

IMG_2952 IMG_2953
Sorry for the blurry 2nd picture, I’m not sure what happened.

Tunic: Ricki’s - another awesome Boxing Day Sale
Sweater: Gap
Belt: Ricki’s – gift from hubby
Leggins: Ricki’s – Boxing Day Sale
Shoes: The Bay

That black sweater is seriously one of my most favourite pieces, the way that it rounds out an outfit is great.  It totally pulls it all together and works in so many different looks. I think I could have used some sort of necklace to add some sparkle or pizzazz to the top, what do you think?  If you were to wear a necklace, what would you wear?

My fashion goal this week is to go to thrift stores and look for some fun accessories… I am going to learn to use them (with your help)! Looking forward to the hunt and sharing my treasures with you.

Make Me Up: Eyes

I love make-up.  Just in the last couple of years I really came to appreciate the importance of good quality products, products from places like Sephora and MAC.

My favourite feature to play up are my eyes, it’s fun to add colours in different, subtle ways.  Today, I decided to do a simple light smoky eye:

All over the lid: Sephora brand in Porcelain
Inside corners and just below eye-brow: Sephora Brand Aspin Summit
Outside corner: Sephora Brand Catherine
Lashes: Buxom Lash by Bare Escentuals

My favourite brushes are the ecotools that I got from London Drugs- they have bamboo handles, are made of cruelty free and soft bristles and apply make-up just where I want it to go.  For a very economical price they are perfect.

When I play up my eyes, I like to keep my lips natural so a lip gloss with a light tint in the same colour my lips are:

Lip Colour: BareMinerals Rose gloss (from, you guessed it, Sephora)

Yay, Make-up!  I also have a few awesome MAC shadows and a bunch more Sephora shadows that I really like.  Of course, I’m continually adding to my collection.

What is your favourite kind of make-up? Do you have a feature you like playing up?
